I-mate Ultimate 8502

The I-mate Ultimate 8502 is a Windows Mobile 6 Professional device that sports a 2.6″ QVGA touch screen with 320 x 240 screen resolution, a 400 MHz Qualcomm MSM 7200 processor, 256 MB ROM, 128 MB RAM, Quadband GSM, Triband 3G with HSDPA, Bluetooth, WiFi b/g, integrated GPS, QWERTY thumboard, 2MP Auto-focus camera with flash, and video output for monitors, projectors and displays. People who want a powerful, fast mobile PDA will appreciate the Ultimate 8502 with built-in GPS and QWERTY thumboard for fast SMS and emails.

The I-mate Ultimate 8502 will remind you of another Windows Mobile device of the same form factor – the BenQ P50. Since it sports a 320 x 240 screen which is bigger in contrast to my Palm Treo 750’s square screen, I’ll be able to use most of my applications properly. It may be taller, but you have more real estate to scribble with the stylus if you don’t feel like using the thumboard. Speaking of the thumboard, honestly it was quite a disappointment for me. It’s tiny, tinier than the Treo 750. Nevertheless, I’m still able to type some entries during my short playtime. I may get used to this type of thumboard, as I’ve done with the HTC Cavalier a.k.a. Dopod C730.
Like other Ultimate devices, performance is snappy thanks to its fast Qualcomm processor. It also has built-in GPS, something that the Ultimate 6150 and 8150 don’t have. But what the 8502 doesn’t have is a VGA screen. Why leave it out, I-mate? I don’t get it.

Is the Ultimate 8502’s screen brighter than the Treo 750 or is it just me?
